WARNER ROBINS, GA. - A viewer reached out and said he went to walk the track at the new Warner Robins sports complex, but was disappointed when asked to pay the fee.

Carol Mead, 75, of Houston County, wakes up every morning to go for a walk. He said the new sports facility was great, so he wanted to check it out.
"A group of seniors who are all 75 or older, we go to the hospital here every day, and we're having fun and we just decided, 'Well, maybe one day we'll try to get into the new house. Sports complex,'" he said. Mead.
So he and his friend went looking for it, but they were surprised.
"When we were going and the guy told us it was $1 a day to go to the track and $25 a month, and I thought, 'That's a lot, especially for seniors,'" she said.

"This building was funded by SPLOST money, and the voters voted yes, so we are grateful and very grateful that we were able to finish quickly to build a facility like this, and we charge an activity fee to offset the cost to help open the facility throughout the year," Reneau said.
It includes four baseball and softball fields, four basketball courts, eight volleyball courts and 12 indoor pickleball courts. They also have an indoor training track.
"It's $1 to walk the track or you can buy a $25 membership to walk the track, and then we have an open gym, which is to open a gym for basketball, volleyball, pickleball. It's $3 out and use that for that activity. , he said.

The complex is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is also open on Sundays from until 6 pm as long as no one rents a place. With the potential for record heat, it's not the most attractive option for kids starting summer vacation, but for years it was the only basketball court in the park until longtime residents began pushing for something better.
Alvin Robinson said he pressed the city council for years, asking repeatedly, "Are you going to do something?" Finally they did.
Councilman Clifford Holmes led the charge for a new indoor court at the park, and on May 7th it opened its doors.
It's a sparkling $2.7 million facility (paid for with SPLOST dollars) said Holmes was "more money than well spent."

For Robinson, it's more than a place for kids to play sports. "It means a lot because now the children have a place to go instead of getting into trouble and going to jail," he said. "Maybe this place will solve all the problems."
According to numbers from Holmes, daily attendance has been strong, with more than 100 kids on the course almost every day in the first week of opening.
However, not everything is perfect. It costs $2 to enter each day, which some say can be prohibitive.
Warner Robins Recreation Department Director Jarred Reneau said he's setting up a "deposit box" to help pay the expenses of needy kids.
